The Playhouse Project is a unique opportunity that allows Habitat Dekalb to partner with local families to build a playhouse, providing their children with a safe place to play and imagine what home means to them. It's a program designed to teach young children the pride and joy of homeownership.

Playhouses are built with love for children to explore, play, and grow with a space of their own. "Playing house" is often the first time kids think about what it means to have their own home.

Please make sure that your pickup vehicle can accommodate the disassembled playhouse(s), each of which is 4 feet wide, 6 feet long, and 2 feet tall.
DO bring a pickup, trailer or U-Haul.
DO NOT bring a minivan or SUV (especially with children in the rear seats) unless the rear hatch has a 4 foot opening measured horizontally (NOT diagonally or vertically). If your vehicle meets these requirements please take the rear seats out before coming to pick up the playhouse.
Please measure first and allow enough room for everyone to be properly seat-belted in after the playhouse is loaded!
Please also plan to send photographs or videos of the children receiving or playing in their new playhouse. These photos and videos are greatly appreciated as they are sent to the sponsor of the playhouse and encourage groups to continue to build playhouses for other organizations or individuals. You can see what the playhouses look like by contacting us.
Playhouses are built for usage by single families. They are susceptible to additional wear if used in public spaces or by multiple children. We recommend checking playhouses often for wear and replacing playhouses as needed. We are happy to provide new playhouses!
Please note that our playhouses are not meant to be sold at any time and have a value of $0 for the purposes of auctions or fundraisers.
